HER STORY | Chaia Kuss

Her Story. A series of blog posts telling the stories of 'women who ride' from all corners of the globe. We hope that by sharing these stories we can help encourage other women to build their confidence, learn from others and inspire others.

This month we have a story by Chaia, 27, from Queensland, Australia. Chaia was raised with the sound of Harleys always close by and now has developed a great passion for building custom rides.

We hope you enjoy her story!

My name is Chaia Kuss, I'm 27 and live in Brisbane QLD, Australia.
I always rode on and off since I was a kid but have had my road licence for five years now.
My dad has been heavily involved with bikes his whole life and I've naturally followed in his steps. He's always been riding, building and modifying. I got into it because I saw the fun and release he got from it and I wanted that for myself. I owe all of this to my amazing dad who found the best lifestyle and introduced me to the culture.

My mum owns an airbrushing business, Becs Air Art, so we have the best of the best for custom art and paint to go along side all the bikes dad and I build.
Building bikes with Dad
Currently we're working on a Harley Evo/Shovel build for myself, a ridged 650 hardtail triumph for my Dad, and soon to be building a twin cam chopper for my boyfriend.

I am currently riding a 2005 Harley XHL 1200 Sportster. I've changed the paint, tank, headlight, indicators, shocks, rims and a lot of maintenance to get it right.

I am CURRENTLY building a custom Evo/Shovel Harley. 1969 Shovelhead frame, swingarm and forks, with a 1989 110 Evo stroked and cammed to an 1815cc.
Everything is being customised to fit and suit me, I'm 5"2' so I need something I know I can handle and throw around but also is as loud, and blarey as my personality. Rose gold accents on the motor and rims, midnight black to metal flake blue in the sun, this bike will be insane when it's done.

God, motorcycles has changed my life. I got out of a domestically violent relationship because he insisted that I wasn't "allowed" to ride bikes. I became confident in myself. I learnt to have fun again. I've met so many great people. I've landed modelling agreements and I've met my now partner through the bike scene and couldn't be happier.

To anyone who is looking to start riding, DO IT!
Don't let anything hold you back. Don't let fear take over, go outside of your comfort zone and you'll find a whole new world on and off the bike that you didn't know you can't live without.
The people, the freedom, the noise, the exhilaration, absolutely nothing beats the feeling when there's nothing but you and the bike under you. Besides, you'll look like a total bad bitch
